Over the past year TEC Systems has been helping to renovate and upgrade Stony Brook’s West Plant. TEC’s project team has been carefully and strategically taking on the install and integration of two industrial cascade heaters. This is the first time TEC has been faced with incorporating this type of hybrid heating water equipment. Fortunately, TEC has a team of three different engineers that derived concepts and implementations to craft the systems running conditions and loops better suited for the facility. They were able to use Honeywell devices in conjunction with Allen Bradley Controllers to arrive at precise and desirable results. The heaters tie-in the water and steam lines needed for it to run suitably to spread across the extensive length of the campus. One of the programmers on the job, Jake Presky, helped with the retrofit process of integrating the new high-end equipment with the existing utilities using Rockwell Automation programming practices. He found it interesting how Allen Bradley’s original equipment seamlessly integrated with the new controllers and the adaptations TEC provided.
