Stony Brook University West Plant
OVERVIEW
Solutions become obvious when excellent teamwork and possible strategies come into play. Stony Brook University sought after TEC Systems, Inc to design and install an innovative integration solution for their West Plant campus upgrade. The new multiphase industrial renovation revolved around the need for a more efficient running system to fulfill the campuses supply of electrical, heating and cooling. Part of the retrofit was interfacing the hybrid equipment of the deaerator plant and cascade heaters to safely and sufficiently deliver the required steam supply. Because of the robust combustion and high pressure, TEC had to create careful sequence of operations to cover the different running phases to regulate a safe critical environment. Valves and level gauges helped to indicate proper oxygen concentrations to assure safe running conditions. The industrial pieces of equipment were fit-out with Rosemount devices to achieve higher preforming pressure flow and level solutions to deliver safe and reliable supply.
The performance increases the campuses demand through this scalable application that is energy efficient and easily regulated. In turn, TEC utilized Allen Bradley controllers in conjunction with Rockwell Automation programming for dependable metering and trending for the BMS front-end. In addition, three new boilers were installed where TEC helped to enable and control the firing rate for each one making them highly efficient. The maintainability through this plant helps to prevent energy loss and create peak performance through a flexible integrated design.
